Center for Automotive Research Liaison Team

Currently, David is the Industry Collaboration Director for CAR and the Ohio Manufacturing Institute. Responsibilities include attracting industrial funding for Ohio State in the form of consortium membership fees, gifts, student scholarships, fellowships, and research programs. He also supports student recruitment and the OSU Alumni Club of Detroit. Prior to working at Ohio State, he was Program Director at Microheat and spent 19 years at Lear Corporation and 7 years at General Motors Corporation. He has received 7 patents with two in production over his 30+ year career in the automotive industry.

Dr. Durand is a Research Specialist at OSU-CAR and the Director of the Testing, Engineering and Software Development Services group.  He is an expert in the design, modeling and optimization of energy systems and has over 30 years of industrial and academic experience with a focus on alternative energy and automotive systems.  Dr. Durand also has a strong background in policy with a degree in Technology & Policy from MIT, as well as practical policy experience in a state energy office and a public utility commission.  Dr. Durand has additionally been involved in numerous design projects where the final product included a device to be built or manufactured.
